Kurukshetra (Haryana) [India], May 7 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday lashed out at the Congress party for saying that the constitution of the country will be changed if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes into power.
“In its 55 years, the Congress should have given impetus to the development of the country and should have done the work in the interest of the poor and farmers,” said the Chief Minister.
Further slamming the Congress party, he said, “There was rampant corruption prevalent during Congress’ regime.”
Hailing the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “People had given Congress a long time, but in 10 years, Narendra Modi has worked to strengthen the country and made women empowered.”
Nayab Singh Saini further highlighted that the PM has enhanced the global image of India.
“PM Modi has glorified the country’s image abroad. The status of India has been enhanced at the international level,” said Saini.
“When the world spoke earlier, our country used to listen, but now that India speaks, the world listens. This is what PM Modi has helped the country attain,” added the CM.
Earlier in the day, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and former CM Manohar Lal Khattar filed their nomination papers.
The former Haryana Chief Minister is a BJP candidate from the Karnal Lok Sabha seat. While filing his nomination, he was accompanied by CM Nayab Singh Saini.
While Saini is contesting the assembly by-poll from Karnal, the seat that Khattar vacated for him, Khattar will be contesting from the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency this time.
Notably, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state, the BJP swept the state, capturing all 10 seats and the Karnal Lok Sabha seat witnessed 68.31 per cent votes. The BJP’s nominee, Sanjay Bhatia, won by a whopping margin of over 6 lakh votes in the last Lok Sabha election.
In the 2014 elections, the BJP won 7 seats, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 2 seats and the Congress secured only one seat. From the same Karnal Lok Sabha seat, the BJP’s Ashwini Kumar had won in 2014, too.
Congress’ Arvind Kumar Sharma won Karnal in 2009 and 2004, both times as a Congress candidate. This time, Sharma is contesting as a BJP candidate from Rohtak against Congress’ Deepender Singh Hooda.
The Lok Sabha elections for the 10 parliamentary constituencies of Haryana are going to be held in a single phase on May 25. (ANI)
