West Bengal: Tripura CM urges voters to choose BJP for development, security – World News Network

Birbhum (West Bengal) [India], May 12 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held a roadshow in Sainthia city of Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Debtanu Bhattacharya and asked people to vote for development and security.
CM Saha held the roadshow on Saturday, the last of campaigning for the May 13 polls.
Notably, Bhattacharya is the second candidate of the BJP from the Birbhum Lok Sabha seat after former IPS officer Debasish Dhar’s nomination was cancelled on technical grounds. He is pitted against the Trinamool Congress Party’s sitting MP and actor Satabdi Roy.
Stressing the guarantee of development and security under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Tripura CM urged voters to consider the broader implications of their vote beyond mere party lines.
With a keen eye on the number game, CM Saha outlined ambitious targets for his party, aiming to capture a significant portion of the state’s parliamentary seats.
Notably, in the 2019 election, TMC won 22 seats, the BJP got 18 seats and Congress got just 2 seats while the Left drew a blank.
The Chief Minister’s confidence in his party’s prospects reflected a broader narrative of change and development that resonated with many voters disillusioned with the current state of affairs.
However, amid the flurry of political activities, the opposition landscape appeared fragmented and devoid of a coherent policy agenda. As TMC’s decision to contest independently, rather than as part of the INDIA bloc, has led to a three-way contest in West Bengal, with the other contenders being the BJP and Congress-Left alliance.
As the campaigning for Phase 4 of Lok Sabha elections in eight constituencies of the state on May 13 ends on Saturday, the political atmosphere in West Bengal remains charged with anticipation and expectation.
With leaders from all sides made their final appeals, the stage is set for a decisive electoral showdown that will reverberate far beyond the state’s borders.
West Bengal, which sends 42 MPs to Parliament, is voting in all seven phases.
Polling for six Lok Sabha seats in Bengal was held across the first three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7.
The voting for the remaining parliamentary seats will be held on May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. The counting of votes has been scheduled for June 4.
The campaigning for Phase 4 of Lok Sabha elections which will see voting on 96 constituencies, ended on Saturday. A total of 1,717 candidates from 10 States/UTs will contest elections in this phase. (ANI)
